Hello! I’m Barry. I build tech and media ventures, and help them realise their ambitions for scale.

For over 15 years, I’ve worked with startups that are scaling rapidly, corporates that aspire to launch new high-growth business units, and founders who want to build rigour and structure around their ventures.

Prior to my start-up life, I started my career in advertising at Ogilvy & Mather followed by strategy consulting at Bain & Company.

In 2013 I joined EdTech pioneer Decoded as COO, leading growth from 7 people in a cupboard to a global team of 100+ in three years across offices in London, New York and Sydney.

In 2018, I founded FT Strategies, a startup within the Financial Times that has helped 50+ media organisations around the world build sustainable, high-growth digital businesses using FT technology and expertise, helping fund a future for journalism.

In 2023, I co-founded Electric Sheep - London’s first professional training centre for AI.

From B2B to D2C in one month: ideating and prototyping a new route to market for Series D MedTech scale-up

  • High-growth manufacturer of transformative medical diagnostic devices to evaluate new routes to market.

  • Launched first ever direct-to-customer (D2C) venture within an organisation that was 100% B2B to date.

    Executed brief to 'make it happen', taking venture from idea to launch a bricks’n’mortar MVP in just 3 weeks.

    During those three weeks, my team and I rented a retail outlet in London, converted it to a medical testing facility, built an online booking and fulfilment platform, hired a retail management team, created a new brand with a wide range of assets, rigorously documented our medical protocol, and more.

    Managed wide range of stakeholders, internal (medical, product) and external (insurers, trading standards, regulators, landlords).

    Prototyped various approaches at light-speed, iterating strategy and execution on a daily basis.

Helping one of UK’s biggest flower distributers reinvent themselves as a D2C disruptor

  • Global wholesaler and importer of flowers wanted to pilot a new direct-to-customer, subscription-based venture in UK – their first-ever foray into retail.

  • Mapped out roadmap to MVP and launch, which included blueprints for tech stack and hiring.

    Built five-year commercial model to evaluate opportunity and determine capex needs from parent company.

    Pitched joint venture opportunity to major UK supermarket.

    Rapidly built prototype web site and mobile app, which we used to build consensus and support for new venture. Prototype provided live customer feedback and transformed the dynamic of pitch conversations.
